Drewry East-West Airfreight Price Index on the rise

[stm_post_details]

At an average of US$3.15 per kg, Drewry’s East-West Airfreight Price Index reached its highest point of this year in October.

At 97.0, the index was up 5.1 points on the September figure. However, the index remains some way off the value of 99.7 it was at in October 2015.

A Drewry Sea & Air Shipper Insight statement predicts: “We expect to see prices strengthen further in November before easing off in December and early 2017.”

Drewry’s East-West Airfreight Price Index is a weighted average of all-in airfreight ‘buy rates’ paid by forwarders to airlines for standard deferred airport-to-airport airfreight services on 21 major East-West routes for cargoes above 1,000 kg. It includes the base rate, fuel surcharge and security surcharge, but doesn’t include door delivery costs.

The index value of 100 was set in May 2012.
